Published: Mar 31,2026

The China Welfare Institute Children’s Palace Little Companion Art Troupe Choir was founded on 1 June 1955 by Soong Ching Ling and is one of the leading youth choirs in Shanghai. The choir has performed at major events such as the APEC Meeting, Shanghai World Expo, and the CICA Summit, and works closely with groups like the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and Shanghai Opera House, as well as renowned musicians including Plácido Domingo and Tan Dun.

In 2012, the Shanghai Youth Choir (SYC) was established under the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and is known as a “golden cradle of singers.” Its federation now includes over 300 member choirs, helping raise the overall standard of choral education in Shanghai. The choir has collaborated with distinguished conductors and won multiple international awards, including top prizes at the Singing World, Singapore International Choir Competition, Béla Bartók International Choir Competition, and the 13th World Choir Games in 2024.
